Alternatives offered for defective air conditioning

Travelling back on the 18:15 Leeds to London Kings Cross on Monday night only one standard class carriage had working air conditioning. Everyone was offered the alternative to catch a later train at Doncaster, with no guaranteed seats, and claim delay repay on the original arrival time. We were told repeatedly this was all they could offer along with free water, or cancel the train!

What I don't understand is why they could not declassify the deserted (pardon the pun but deserts are often bitterly cold at night) three 1st class carriages?

Get as many off the train at Donny, offer free upgrades to rPassengers on a carriage by carriage basis beyond Donny?

We asked asked again on declassifying after Doncaster when the water came around but were told that wasn't an option available. I presume that was based on a management policy, as they must have authorised people catching a later train.

How bizarre, given that LNR (from previous LM culture) declassifies when someone breathes on a slightly overcrowded train.

390039 was working the 1455 Manchester to Euston on Monday, I was only going to Stockport but the train manager made an announcement to say that the aircon had failed in Coach D and that staff were handing out bottles of water. I was in Coach C but when I got off I could feel the heat hit me from Coach D as we were getting off. The train was fully reserved throughout standard as well with it being a bank holiday too.
