People who have done ALR trips recently, how did you go about reserving seats on reservation compulsory services? (LNER, AWC etc)

The "secret" is that they're not actually compulsory, other than for sleeper services. Just hop on and take any available seat.

If you would like reservations anyway, you can get them at any ticket office.

I had no need to reserve seats on my late 2022 ALR, so I wouldn't worry about doing so. As the previous person said, visit a ticket office if you are concerned about limited spaces available. You can also do LNER seat reservations on their website, up to 5 minutes before departure.

Seats can also be reserved (for any train operator that offers reervations) through the GWR website.

You can reserve LNER seats on their website without having a ticket at all.

I've even done that when I fell foul of the bug/feature, where when you book the final advance at a certain price level, the seat picker won't let you change your assigned seat. The standalone seat reserver showed plenty of free seats and on the train itself most reservations in my coach went unclaimed.

Do you have a link for this as I've never been able to find it.

Doesn't seem clear in this section

@Andy Pacer It's a bit confusing but you need to go to the GWR website (https://gwr.com), click "My Account", log in, click "View Bookings" on your dashboard then "Make a seat/bike reservation"

I've attached a screenshot showing where the view bookings button is as its quite hidden! 1678983918568.png
