To use a First Class ALR for the complimentary offering is a bit pointless as the ALR is so expensive, you're paying for the food many times over.

My post was simply pointing out that I did a lot of LNER as part of it (as a response to the OP's original question/request)... and if I didn't want the complimentary offering I would have got a standard class ALR...

Nowhere did I state that I had paid the additional ticket cost for the food alone, I wanted to enjoy first class travel, a better experience, lounges etc. Although I don't have to justify my decision!
