The OP asked about a guard being in the cab for a matter of seconds and everyone is on about the guard TRAVELLING in the cab! FFS get a grip!:roll:

We all know that guards cannot TRAVEL in the leading cab (except in certain circumstances) but sticking their nose in for a few seconds hardly constitutes travelling does it.

...I'm afraid it matters not whether one is travelling or 'poking their nose in for a few seconds' - though if the train is moving and you are over the cab threshold the company would in fact be perfectly correct to use the term 'travelling' - a Guard will be hung for opening the cab door while the Driver is Driving a moving train.

I don't see any reason why the guard shouldn't poke his nose into the cab on his own initiative, especially if there is something he is co-operating with the driver. It doesn't hurt to be proactive about co-operation, even the most retarded manager would see that.

...A manager, retarded or not (!), would have a duty of responsibility to intervene and report you doing this, and the chances are that disciplinary action will follow. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the way this is dealt with by the way, merely pointing out the reality of the situation here!

When is the one occasion when a Guard is allowed to travel in the Driving cab? IIRC it's when the signaller asks the Driver to examine the line?
