Anyone know what's happening at Allerton Depot (Liverpool). As it hadn't been used, apparently, for a long time other than for storing rolling stock I'd assumed that when a lot of contractors moved in the track was being lifted in preparation for demolition - but it looks like it's being relaid.

Northern Rail also plans to use it as a base for EMUs on the Chat Moss route following electrification.

I'll go and edit it to say the depot's being converted to an internment camp for MPs who fiddle expenses.

As previously mentioned, it will be the official "home" of Northern's Class 156 fleet, before changing to the Class 319 following any subsequent electrification scheme.
Hopefully some wiring may appear towards Warrington Central......
I have also heard that a reception road will be getting added with 3rd rail to enable Merseyrail services to go onto the depot for whatever operational reason. They used to go there to use the lathe.

Network Rail are re wiring the depot in readiness for northern rail to stable there trains,its being wired to stable the cascaded thameslink trains which will be coming up north some day.
Its a ideal location, its close to edge hill where the new electrification from manchester will appear.

Have there been any figures of unit capacity of the depot in terms of these EMU that will be eventually stabled there?
The depot has a 4 track shed which will NOT be wired,northern will use little shunters to haul electric traction into the shed when electrics turn up.The reason for this is that when ews had it they dewired some off the depot, when northern took over the lease they wanted it exactly the same as before, the shed has never been wired as it was always a diesel depot.
Northern rail are taking delivery of new 350's desiro's and are having some of london midland's, i've been told that the shed is likely to stay un-wired for the foreseeable future,it would cost to much to get 8 section insulators installed and run new wire and sort out feeding each road

350s to Northern!!? Some from London Midland? We wish.
Will be the home of 319s from First Capital Connect at some point in the future.
I've heard an 08 is getting brought in from Down Hill CS, but the roads will all be electrified at some point, seeing as it will eventually be a near 100% electric traction depot!
You'd of thought so,it would be a waste of a depot if it wasn't all wired, im only going off what i know to be true at the moment, my source is very reliable!!.
As for northern rail getting 350's that has come from a high level source within london midland, yes i do have friends in very high places!!!.

The 350s are going to Transpennine Express for Scottish routes.
The 319s are going to Northern.
If the two franchises are merged at the next review, then obviously Northern COULD get 350s, but they are supposed to be used on the Scotland routes.

London Midland are only getting eight additional 350s, which it has been reported in a recent press release from London Midland are going to be used to increase the capacity of LMs' existing EMU fleet. The existing 350s won't be going anywhere.
To the best of my knowledge the originally proposed order of IEP trains for Euston to Northampton has been put on the back burner and does not feature in the currently planned fleet of IEP trains.

London Midland is ordering the 350s primarily for Transpennine Express (Manchester-Scotland) as well as expanding their current fleet of 350s.
As for Cl.395s you're on another planet if you believe that rubbish!
I never said it believed it,someone has put it up, and it wasnt me.
Will london midland be operating the trans-pennine route?
