hi

long time since ive posted on here, but i had this idea about trying to visit all the request stops in britain in (preferably in a week or just over) i have a route, now just timetabling but whilst doing this i've been using this to get the locations of them

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Railway_request_stops_in_Great_Britain

but i realised whilst doing this some were missing, so i was wondering before i go in to too much planning if anyone knew any others that might be missing

help with this would be greatly appreciated

thanks

sam

Think they said on the Paul Merton show recently there were 152, but this list only shows 148 - not sure how the four are accounted for.

Aren't there a few stations which are mandatory stops for some trains and request stops for others?

The Wiki page has St Andrews Road listed, but it hasn't been a request stop for several years now. Didn't stop Merton going there though.

edit - Avoncliff is on the list too, another one that hasn't been a request stop for a while now.

i tweeted national rail to see if they had anything, they didn't, weather network rail would know any different im not sure...

I've been looking into this over the last 2 days, and by my reckoning going off the current May 2016 timetables there are only 144 current Request stops.

Most of the wikipedia list is good...however ones that are NOT now request stops are the following:

Manea
Caergwrle
Cefn-y-Bedd
St Andrews Road
Avoncliff
Gowerton
New Clee

Some strange ones that are request stops is the likes of Bearley in the midlands that is only a request stop for the first train mon-fri...the rest of the time it is an ordinary stop.

There are ones in the wiki list that are from preserved lines like Damems on the KWVR , Newtondale on the NYMR and Greenway Halt on the Dartmouth steam railway.

I've come up with 146 stations which are, at least part of the time, request stops. I might be wrong, and I'm open for correction, but I've tried to be thorough.

I skimmed through the National Rail Timetable, picking out all the request stops that I could see. Then I cross referenced that with the Wikipedia list, any which were on there that weren't on my list I went back and checked (I did miss a few in the first pass as looking at every single timetable entry in detail would have taken weeks). After that, I double checked any which were on my list and not on Wikipedia's list (there was two mistakes, not sure where they came from).

As far as I can tell, the following 13 stations are missing from the Wikipedia list:
Ardlui
Brampton (Suffolk)
Builth Road
Cilmeri
Claverdon
Corrour
Dilton Marsh
Dolau
Dolwyddelan
Flimby
Harwarden Bridge
Llanwrda
Roy Bridge

And the following 11 stations should not be on the Wikipedia list:
Avoncliff
Burnside
Caergwrle
Cefn-y-Bedd
Falls of Cruachan
Finstock
Fearn
Gowerton
Manea
Rolleston
Staveley

Damems, Greenway Halt (Devon) and Newton Dale Halt are on the Wikipedia list as well, these are on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, Dartmouth Steam Railway and North Yorkshire Moors Railway respectively, so their inclusion depends on whether heritage counts or not.

Most of the wikipedia list is good...however ones that are NOT now request stops are the following:

Manea
Caergwrle
Cefn-y-Bedd
St Andrews Road
Avoncliff
Gowerton
New Clee

St Andrews Road is request for some trains on a Saturday (Table 133), and New Clee is request (Table 28).

I agree that New Clee is a req stop mon - sat... but interestingly not on a summer Sunday.

St Andrews Road...studying the gwr website and the NR timetable, the apparent req stops on a saturday are in fact bus substitutions...I'm pretty confident it is now a non req stop....so that makes 145 in total.

Ah, missed that about St Andrew's Road, you're correct.

So how is Paul Merton coming up with 152, I wonder?
