All railway stations in uk

Hi newbie here I was wondering how many actual Railway stations there are on the network not including Steam or heritage lines and whether there was an official Guinness world record for visiting them all in the fastest time.?

Some people on here might know me from a different forum as i hold The London Underground world record.

I suppose that would depend on what you would define as a "visit". Is passing through a station a "visit" or would you need to get out, stand on the platform and have your picture taken to prove you were there?

Also, I note you exclude heritage lines. Does that mean you would include all metro, light rail, tram and London Underground stations too?

Has already been asked previously, and it was over 2,000 IIRC. You should be able to find the figures on the DfT or ATOC website, it is on an excel spreadsheet which shows entries and exits for each station, conducted by Delta Rail.

As for visiting every station, best of luck but don't be surprised if it takes years, a lot of money and you might not be able to go to the private ones.

No that was a guy called Geoff marshall i presume they are a few people who have actually visited them all over a period of time obviously for somebody like me who pursues records they are some neat tricks like running from Dorchester South to Dorchester West for example and the yeovil junctions which aint far apart London would obvioulsy be a hub of a wheel for most of this.

2 miles is nothing 1 link i have is me running 11miles distance roughly and i have 2.5 hours to do it in.

That's nothing, you only need to do that at 4.4mph on average, which is barely a fast walk!

I go back to when the London Underground Railway Society had absorbed what was London Roving..and so Guinness Superlatives asked us to supervise what had been up to then two or three records: A, B and C, depending on whether just the tube was used, or public transport between lines, or taxi/private car. I think an all-time record was set by a young chap whose mother ferried him around at termini! Anyhow, back around 1980 LURS was asked to supervise a new attempt which was the first for years. It had been agreed that a new record would be set as the system had changed so much. I did my bit on the District when they went to Turnham Green thence to Richmond and back and then on to Heathrow. They caught the last District at Monument as Desmond Croome asked the District Controller to hold the train there as the team were coming over from Bank. They finished at 01.15 or so and had their photos taken with a BR ticket collector! In those days we had Ongar, and Watford on the Bakerloo, exhibition-only on the Olympia branch and peak hours to Shoreditch. So you started at Ongar at 06.30 I think it was, on a day when there was an exhibition on at Olympia, during the week!

Back on to the query, I am sure that people have boasted that they have 'done' all BR stations in the past. It would surely take weeks? Sounds like a call to GBR is apposite to ask if a new record could be set? If the same criteria as the tube record is applied you need to have stopped at a platform and not passed through it. That means fun with one-a-week services!

Well my route is coming along quite nicely i do have some questions for the request stops like the welsh 1 (dont ask me to spell begins wiv c) just after fishguard.

Can u ask the train guard/driver to physical stop at them even if u dont want to get off.?just take a picture for example.I have noted most of the stations southern area stopping slow services where the trains cross over each other or close to minimise my waiting time.

Its going to take me a while to do all the midlands though as that is the main hub of the railway network and a pain in the arse.

If you're travelling West to Fishguard the next stop is the Irish Sea!!! On the way back there is Clarbeston Road and Clynderwen, but none of the Fishguard trains are booked to stop at Clynderwen. There is a call on the 2345 Swansea to Fishguard ex Fishguard at Clarbeston Road (0100), and the 0150 ex Fishguard return. I imagine that the conductor might be agreeabkle if you have a word in advance.
