Planning an ALR this April, just a question.

I plan to start it with the 23.45 sleeper from Paddington, are you able the first day 'from 00.01', and not be be penalised and lose a days validity for the sake of 15 minutes?
Or buy a single to Reading for its 00.37 departure from there?
Thanks!

I see no reason why you couldn't buy a single to the first station the train is scheduled to pass through after midnight, although I'm not completely sure which station this would be.

Another good way to max out the validity is to catch the 2340 southbound sleeper from Glasgow or Edinburgh on the last day of validity.

AFAIAA When using staff boxes on the sleeper we would always fill "tomorrow's" date in. Also on the continent when using overnight services that depart after 19:00 persons holding eurail or interail passes again fill in tomorrow's date.

I think this should be the case for you too with an ALR and the night riviera? I will check and respond in due course.
