Can I pay for an all line rover (second class) either in full or in part by delay repay vouchers?

I have had some expensive journeys recently ( c£100) that have gone south nd this year offers me the last chance I have to do something like this before life gets to complicated or expensive.

Absolutely.

You're not going near Shepherd's Bush by any chance? I am sure they'd love to do such a transaction.

(Well, the staff weren't a few weeks ago, but I understand that their manager insists that they will be happy to issue one next time, and I am sure would appreciate any feedback ;))

Cheers - perhaps i should open a poll to see which station wants the vouchers the most!

I was worried they might think i had stolen them!

:) . Plenty of guards would more than happy to issue one and take any quantity of vouchers !

Hemel station were happy to take eight of the blighters for my season ticket, including two issued to my partner.

Other London Midland stations are available.

Though anecdotal evidence suggests that some TOCs have restricted the ability to issue Rovers on their Avantix machines...And training doesn't always cover the "correct" way to process split payments.

Guards still get commission on all ticket sales so an ALR would be very nice-particularly at a depot that usually deals in small fares. The percentage that the guard gets differs from one TOC to another, I believe the maximum is 5%.

Slightly off topic but I did try to renew my 1st class season with a guard but he said they couldnt do seasons. Shame I was looking forward to helping with his commission :D

Ah ok, Can they take rail vouchers (which are over the ticket price so will need change) or do you need to use a ticket office?

Rail vouchers do not give change.

Yes, guards should be able to accept them, but practice varies from depot to depot.

Out of curiosity, why would you want to help with the guard's commission?

Using the ticket office would also be nice, as it would help to contribute to keeping people in jobs. Buying from a guard, arguably, helps him to increase his earnings in a relatively safe job.

Because most of the time I have bought tickets, guards have given better customer service than ticket office staff, so it's less hassle. (There are of course exceptions in both cases, admittedly)

Indeed, I understand guards tend to count ALRs in a number of pints. Just like long distance anytime returns. :)

The only trouble with buying ALR's from guards is that I don't think they do seat reservations and some TOC's charge if you buy get them at a different time from purchase. Correct me if I am wrong. Also I have a lot of reservations when doing my ALR as added proof when delayed, this year's took the ticket office person nearly an hour, would a guard have the time if he could.

BTW I had £103.75 worth of vouchers off the ticket.
