I have a question about the ALR validity restrictions introduced a while ago on "boarding" and "alighting" certain TOC's services at certain stations before 10am.

Take the 0659 VT service from Lancaster to Euston as an example. This departs Coventry at 0930, arrives Milton Keynes at 0958 and Euston at 1032.

If an ALR holder were to board this train at Coventry then they clearly cannot alight at Milton Keynes as it is one of the "banned before 1000" stations however can they legitimately travel to Euston on this service despite it stopping at an intermediate, banned station in the restricted period ?

Thanks

Surely yes, because you are not boarding or alighting at Milton Keynes, as the restriction clearly states. There is no restriction regarding passing though before 10am.

The biggest issue you're likely to face may be convincing the TM that you didn't board at New Street.

It is definitely valid. In September last year I made just such a journey - the 08:45 Virgin service from Wolverhampton arriving 10:32 at Euston. No problem at all. This train called at New Street well before 10 o'clock. Since I did not leave the train the restriction did not apply.
