All Line Rover Question

HI guys,

I am doing an ALR starting on the 10th November and Ending on the 16th.

I intend to travel on the 16th from York - Edinburgh (Or somewhere) and pick up the Down Cally sleeper to London (Arriving on the morning of the 17th) is my ticket valid for this sleeper move?

The CS website says I think that it has to span both days of your sleeper journey, so I don't think it will be valid.

Historically it would've been valid but the useless new operator of the sleeper has decided to ride roughshod over many previously valid routeing and ticketing agreements.

Am I able to the same thing on the Night Riviera from Paddington?

As far as I know the Night Riviera still operates on the 'old' rules.

For info it can also be worth getting the sleeper on day 1 of an ALR. The northbound Lowland calls at Watford Junction at 0010, and the Night Riviera calls at Reading just after midnight too. Always good to start an ALR a few minutes after it starts!

Thanks, good for future reference but unfortunately all my other days were planned and was hoping to use the Down Cally to get me to London to finish. However I think that I will now do one of the last VTECs off York to connect with the NR in London and Finish in Exeter or Plymouth.

That is incorrect regarding BritRail, for which only the date of arrival needs be dated (if boxes) or valid for (no boxes), in line with continental Europe practice (for sleeper departures after 1900 I think).

Sounds to me like they want to have their cake and eat it.
