I wonder if anyone on here can help?

I have just tried to book an ALR, 7 Day at my local station, a London Midland one, to commence on 27/3/2017.

The clerk on duty said that he was not sure how to issue one, as he had never issued one before, he tried, but couldn't get it to book that far (five weeks) ahead.

Any Ideas? Thanks in advance!

The other problem I have is I have a load of RTV's that expire on Saturday!

They cannot be booked more than a week in advance from a ticket office IIRC, although in practice some systems may allow them before that.

You may want to try telesales, but in that case you will need to post the vouchers to them.

An alternative suggestion to use up expiring RTVs is to put them on Oyster PAYG.

After a phone conversation with a learned poster on here, it seems to be down to the system that LM use.

A suggestion is try Virgin West Coast at Rugby, or East Mids at Wellingborough, as they have different issuing systems in place.

Frustrating, as two years to the day, I bought a ALR for a much longer date (May) at Euston, without any issues.

Tribute doesn't allow an ALR to be issued today with a start date later than March 15th. IKB doesn't say anything about how far in advance of the start date an ALR can be purchased, so I would interpret that as being the normal 12 months applicable to walk-up tickets. For the OP, are the vouchers from one TOC or several different TOCS?

You're not wanting any sleeper supplements at all are you?

I had the same issue not being able to buy my ALR more than a month in advance but I was allowed to buy my sleeper berth upgrades & make my reservations before returning at a later date to purchase the rover.

I suppose I could buy my ALR for a 'valid' date, then cancell it for a later date?

Obviously it would incurr a fee, but better than

Under Fares Retailing Information/Issue Tickets In Advance on iKB it lists Rovers and Rangers being available 12 months in advance.

STAR will happily issue it, so you're OK if you are in the North of England.

The GWR website seems happy to offer an All Line Rover for any date up to 16 February 2018 (I haven't actually tried to complete the purchase of course!)

That doesn't help the original poster who wants to use vouchers, but does seem to show it is at least possible.

Tried at Rugby today, but same problem, but am assured that I can buy one at Wellingborough, off there tomorrow (40 mile + round trip, at my cost), but why should it be this way?

Knowing where to look (and having time) is key!

For the record, EMT staff at St Pancras were happy to show me that STAR could issue the ALR as required whilst the chap in the Thameslink ticket office didn't even look on SMART, telling me it wasn't possible to sell them at all and that he hadn't issued one "for many years". He helpfully advised me to "go to a bog station, like King's Cross". And many staff wonder why ticket offices are being closed.

I successfully purchased mine today, clerk was great, and now have the piece in my hand!

Seriously Though, I am fairly clouded up to things (thanks to this site), but how would Mr Average Punter get by with things like this?
