Our engineering company booked Al Murray for a corporate bash. He came having fully genned up on the company and provided a very informed and clever set, which went down very well.
That said that he was throwing F's around like confetti and was not adverse to engaging directly with the audience. As others have said, viewing recordings of live sets would seem to be prudent. Crude no, flowery language yep.

I had the good fortune to see Al Murray do that character, in a Hampstead (in north west London) comedy club, two weeks before he went to Edinburgh Fringe, won the coveted Perrier Comedy Award and then became a household name. His act was one of the funniest I have ever seen (and, from the latter 1990s to 2012, I saw more than 50 comedians perform live).

I’ve seen him live twice and there was certainly some swearing. He usually speaks to folk in the front row and gets some laughs from them. Sometimes slightly cruel. At one show there was a fat man in the front row who he nicknamed “Type 2 Diabetes.” He had a box on stage and periodically he’d dive into it and pull out a couple Mars bars or similar. He’d then fling them down to “Type 2” saying “You must be starving mate.”
So avoid the front 2 rows if you are not up for that.

Saw him back in 2017 (?) at the Buxton Opera House and was bored within 15 minutes by the routine. I can't even recall what it was about or any of the gags/enlightening moments other than "The Pub Landlord" sending a guy from the audience out with his money to buy a drink for him and his girlfriend; whilst he attempted to score with his girlfriend and make out nothing happened by the time the boyfriend got back... did this at least 3 times during the set... yawn.

As this is a Rail forum I hope it's not too off-topic to point out that Al Murray's father, Ingram, after a successful army career was later in life a Marketing Manager in Railfreight.

The pub landlord character is xenophobic and sexist (but not misogynistic) with what one might call old fashioned views.
He isn't crude but does swear and certainly audience interaction is a big part of the act.

Suppose you'd need to define 'rude' and 'crude' - very subjective.
The character plays a bit on gender stereotypes (pint for the blokes, white wine for the ladies being the most obvious!), and a lot of it is a mocking of 'being Bri'ish', including our roles in various conflicts and the other countries involved. Expect also some obligatory mocking of the French. He's a far cry from Frankie Boyle or Jimmy Carr making lots of very dark humour sex jokes though.
It depends on your ability to accept it's an act imo.
I met him in Chiswick once - seemed really sound.
Agree with others to watch some of his material, pub landlord specifically, and go from there.

If you have Comedy Central on your TV, you will find one of his stage shows being broadcast every few weeks.

Saw him in Middlesbrough a few years ago, the funniest bit was the interaction with audience members who clearly didn’t understand that the character is satirising the Reform/Britain First type of person.
He’s very funny. Rude, yes, but you won’t see many stand up comedians who aren’t. Crude? Not so much. He’s not like Jimmy Carr, he doesn’t go out of his way to be offensive.

It’s amazing how many people think that the views his character expresses are what he actually stands for.
I think he’s great personally.

He's great. Saw him live at Soho Theatre a year ago previewing his live tour Guv Island. I see a LOT of live comedy , its one of my hobbies, I like a very varied mix from comics from all walks of life - and his set was up there as one of the best.
He's a co -writer for Spitting Image and the stage show that was on recently which was also brilliant. Years ago he stood to be elected as an MP....up against none other than Nigel Farage
