if you have to potentially listen out for audible warnings, ear defenders are out of the window as well.

Nope, the company supplies them and they reduce the noise around you by 19db (according to what it says on the side of them). You can still hear audible warnings, radio calls and broadcasts without any problem whatsoever. They simply take the edge off the painful levels of track noise.

On a side note, a number of TSRs have been introduced last week in areas notorious for extremely loud areas and it seems to have a positive effect. The areas are been monitored and feedback from drivers sought so they maybe be made permanent (only 5mph reduction) until a more permanent solution is found.

Well I've spoken to every driver I know on the jubilee (and other ATO lines) several controllers and a network incident response manager and they all say there is no local agreement. Would love to know who this controller is

Well that's the words that the controller used, so I too would like to know who! I did find it a bit odd when I was told that too but not like I can sit on the phone debating it... hmm... forever a mystery. I didn't see the T/O well enough to recognise them again nor do I remember the name of who I spoke to as this was 6+ months ago now

I am a t/op on the Jubilee Line and what that controller told you was a pile of rubbish.

Headphones are most definitely NOT allowed to be used whilst in control of your train. Ear defenders, yes. Headphones, No.

I thought as such, clearly someone needs a refresh of the rules!

There is no way a line controller will allow the use of headphones. He's already said he wasn't the driver so I wonder why he was talking to the line controller in the first place.

There's something critical missing from this story for it to make sense.

A TO is a technical officer, someone who fixes and maintains signalling equipment. Do you mean T/Op (abbreviation for Train Operator)?

Secondly, any local agreements are nothing to with the Service Controller and should be directed to the Train Operations Manager, or a Duty Manager. A Service Controller is not authorised to override company policy.

Yes I ment T/Op, not T/O

I don't deal with those agreements and it's above my pay grade to care about the inner details, I am just saying what I heard on the call I made to the controller. What local agreement they have, where that information came from to get to the controller, and if the information shared between the SCC and TM/TOMs is accurate, is not my concern, I'm simply saing what I heard.
