Out of interest which sites still send you airline style tickets?

Also, if you buy off a ticket site that does standard tickets but ask for a seat reservation (but on a standard ticket not an Advance) does it print 'ONLY VALID WITH RESERVATIONS' on the actual ticket like it does on the Advance?

I don't see that changing with Eurostar as the ticket gates at St Pancras are done for airline style tickets but with dosmetic within the UK then it can be a hinderence due to ticket gates only taking standard tickets.

exactly, I had to get the gate staff to let me through at Leeds & Grantham over the weekend due to the airline tickets issued by E*

What happened to the barcode readers on the Eurostar machines? A square code (QR-code?) was printed that allowed easy scanning of the ticket (and in theory, this could be on a phone or a much smaller ticket) and I know I've used these before. The tickets don't have these barcodes anymore either.

If you do print at home tickets for E*, they have barcodes on them

I seem to remember you live in Germany. Eurostar must operate differrently for European passengers. For journeys starting at a UK mainline station to Europe you have to collect ordinary train tickets at the mainline station and then the large type at St Pancras for onward journeys in to Europe. Unless they've changed it they only post out tickets starting or ending at St Pancras to UK customers.

Flexible tickets do not have these words printed on them.

East Midlands Trains sent me airline style tickets the last time I booked with them but this was about a year ago so they may well have changed by now.

The last time I got tickets posted to me was from ATW telesales in January '09. They were airline ones
