Well, the invitation to tender for prospective bidders hasn't been issued yet, so it's anybodys' guess as to who will run the Northern franchise after 2013. And of course, the current Serco/Abellio joint venture could win the new franchise. Personally, that's what I would like to see happen.

Another vote for Serco/Abellio to continue but with a franchise agreement that is not let on a 'no growth' basis!

The next franchise will almost certainly see the introduction of Cl.319 rolling stock into Liverpool and probably to Blackpool.

i reckon it'll be DB, you mark my words, and Grand Central (q.v. another thread) is a trojan horse to start their empire building to challenge East Coast.
You mark, as I said, my words.

Yeah I'd be happy for Northern to continue - but as others have indicated, not on a no-growth basis obviously.

I Don't Really wnat to to be DB as they will just paint everything red and to be honest it will make trainspotting boring as i like to got trainspotting to see different liveries etc not jus one which i don't really like.

But Hey i wont be able to change anything but i hope db won't bid to get it and i like grand central as the livery is nice and i bet oif they do buy grand central they will paint the HST Red and they will all look like this:

Who says they're going to pain everything red? The only operation in the UK that they've started to (at a somewhat slow pace) to paint red is DB Schenker (formerly EWS) and it makes sense there as it actually carries their name! Everywhere else has kept it's brand identity and livery (XC and Chiltern).

Anyway this could be interesting assuming there is any truth to the rumour. I doubt we'll see another WSMR here, but I wonder if Bradford might not get cut if DB feel that it will never make a profit.

Yeah I just thought they would as thats what they did with EWS.

It matters less who wins the franchise and more about the actual terms of the franchise (e.g. what new stock/ additional services/ growth is to be paid for)

So First Group have bought out both Secro and Abellio?

They did that on the quiet didn't they! Normally these things would get a tad more media coverage than nothing at all.

Gentlemen (and ladies) I fear we may be in the middle of what is termed a wind up.

Yes, I was aware a long time ago of the extension, but how does that relate to you being had by Horsforth's booking clerk?

The fact he's a booking office clerk is usually a giveaway to how much salt to pinch.

No decisions made yet. And if FirstGroup (desperate to only produce 'good news' stories) were getting it, they'd have done 300 press releases and directors painted it onto there bottoms by now. ;)
