Advice stopping short

Hello,

I'm sorry for the many, many questions, and I'm fairly sure I know the answer to this...

I hold an advance sleeper ticket from Paddington to Penzance. My plans have changed and I now need to get off at Lostwithiel. It is would seem that jumping off at a station on an advance before your booked destination is frowned upon. Would the guard on the sleeper sell me a ticket from Penzance to Lostwithiel to open the barrier?

And would the ticket he sell me be off-peak or on-peak?

You're not allowed to stop short on an advance.

The correct course of action would be for you to buy a ticket from Penzance to Lostwithiel (this would unfortunately need to be an Anytime ticket) and double back from Penzance. You can get this before you travel.

Has Lostwithiel been barriered recently? Stations Made Easy doesn't show it as having ticket gates, but may be out of date.

Just ask the guard when you board. There is a 95% chance he will say it is fine to get off at Lostwithiel and you don't need another ticket.
