Advice re safety record

Hi,
I've been provisionally offered a job but subject to getting my safety record from LU.
I've spoken to LU HR who inform me my safety record is no longer available due to me being away for 7 years now. Obviously they can confirm my emplyment details but that's all.
My question is, seeing as this is a trainee role anyway, why is my previous safety record so important and will it affect my chances of being offered the job because I can't prove I had a clean record?
Luckily my old manager has offered to vouch for me, but will this be good enough?
Surely the TOC I've applied for understand the fact that safety records only exist for so long?
Am I worrying about nothing?

If this is the Trainee MDD role then your previous record should not be essential. If it was a Qualified position then that would be different. I don't know why the TOC are asking for it, have you contacted them to ask why ? Possibly a mistake that they have made ?

Probably HR getting in a Mucking Fuddle. As you know, LUL is a separate entity to NR, so your safety record doesn't transfer.

I could understand them wanting to ensure that you hadn't any record of negligence/ stupidity whilst driving trains, but that's not quite the same thing.

@ Beveridges: Indeed it is the MDD position! I've spoken to HR quite a bit over the last few days, and asked them exactly what you ask, ie why do you need this for a trainee position, and apparently it's the TOCs policy to investigate any previous experience which then has to go to the standards board!

They even sent me a form to give to my current manager to transfer my safety record... I had to explain that my current job is working for a BUS company, not a TOC!

After 5 years out of the grade you are classed as an "off the street" trainee and your new company has no right to demand your previous safety record. They also have no right to act on any incidents on that record as you are not being employed as a qualified driver.

Nope! Even while driving on LU, I couldn't apply for 'qualified' positions so I've always just applied for trainee positions.

I'll wait and see what emails or calls I get tomorrow...
