Advice please

I am 14 years old. I either wants to work in locomotive or aviation industry after graduation. I guess it is easier to get a job in aviation after you do an aviation course. My question is, how hard is it to get into railway? I know it's pretty hard since government is operating the railways. But is there any job I'll get easily in railways?

Well the government doesn’t operate the railway in the UK, so that rules that one out!

It depends what you're covering by doing an 'Aviation course'? Do you mean an Air Traffic Controller course, or just something that you can do at college? I would say NATS is probably your best bet if you want to be a controller....I currently work in an airport, and quite a lot of the people who are controllers here have worked their way up from the bottom...starting with Ground Handling Agents, or other internal departments. It's just my opinion, but in this airport, it's more about experience and attitude that gets you places rather than courses you've done. Obviously it's still good to have on your CV though....

Government do run our railways from signals to timetable behind the scenes.
The franchise is the name of the line you work on or for.
Government subsidies a lot of money into Network rail for the upkeep.

Apprenticeship might be the way to go straight after school. The entry level jobs don't require anything but it might help the paper sift to have relavent experience, which of course you won't have to time to gain directly out of school.

I've not managed to get a railway job though so maybe I'm not the right person to be answering!
