I am finding myself having to drive from West Yorkshire to Moray fairly frequently and in order to break the journey in a meaningful way I was looking to find a suitable spot (somewhere near or ideally between Glasgow and Edinburgh, not far from the M74 or M73 where I might avail myself of a little (daytime) railfreight action?

Any suggestions for a location? That's all I'll need as RTT will give me the rest.

Thanks in anticipation....

Can't be specific, but somewhere further south, in the Beattock area, might be a better - if clichéd - option. Appreciate this is less than halfway on your journey.

Don't know what the view/action would be like, but Belshill/Mossend would seem to suit your critera on paper. J5 of the M74, With Mossend and Coatbridge Container yards usually seeing a fair few trains. Perhaps this bridge on the A775 may be a starting point? Can give no advice on parking though!
