I would appreciate any advice on the following matter if possible it's quite worrying when you read the other posts.
I departed from an un-manned station A so was not able to purchase a ticket at this point so I was anticipating trying by card on the train with the conductor to try and save time but he was not around and as the train was full he was not able to get to me. I then arrived at station C where I approached the barrier I realised I may not have enough in cash to pay for the peak ticket and I often have problems with card machines so to save time I stupidly stated station B which was closer as I was in a rush to catch a connecting coach and did not want to be held up with problems at the barrier with my card.
After discussions with the RPO and him taking my details I managed to convince them to sell me the correct ticke, but not after them already taking my details and reporting or checking them via phone at the gate.
I would like to know where I stand on this matter now as I have the ticket required but not after the unfortunate damage has been done so will I still receive a letter from northern rail, and as this is a first offence I would also like to know what the likely penalty will be?
Thanks for your advice.
