Advice on a 1st bike

I need to get a CBT so I can get into New st. at 4am if (and unforunatly, it is an if) I get a job with Virgin Trains as a 1st class host, and was wondering what would be a good bike to get me started.

It needs to be durable and reliable because I will be riding for 30 miles each way. It also needs a maximum out put of 9Kwatts (I think) and no larger than a 125cc.

I know naff all about bikes (other than the really big ones). I'd appreciate any advice on which bike to get (make and model will do fine)

I bought my 49cc (as that's the max you can have when you are 16), about 2 years ago from this place, based in Hertfordshire - http://www.theinternetbikeshop.com/store/comersus_index.asp they're all Chinese, so if you're looking for something cheap... I don't know if they deliver though, I got mine when I lived nearby and went there on the bus & train to pick it up, but they have dealers all over the UK.

I'd say, go for a 125, especially if you live in either an area where speed limits are high, or an area that's quite hilly.

You'd be better off doing the next part of your test that allows you to ride upto a 500, then buying a 250.

I'm 18 so can go upto a 125cc.

I'll have about £500 to spend, so second hand is a must.

I'm in shropshire so brum would be quite easy. And I'm in the country so lots of 60mph and big hills

I'm getting a CBT just so I can say I have my own transport, and then when I have a bit more money coming in I want to get my 500cc lincense

I'd def go for a 125 then. I'm fed up with my 49cc in the city - wouldn't want it in the countryside!

I ride a Honda Pantheon FES125 which cost me £2599 brand new a year ago. I ride 15 miles each way every day to work and i used to have a Yamaha Xerox 100. Pay the more money and go for a cruiser scooter like mine, feet forward comfy seat really good balence and road handling. Also does 70mph which is about 10 mph more than any other bike of comparable 125cc size (except the piaggios) and is super quick off the line. You may think wow £2599 is a lot but honda do great finance deals and it costs me just £76 a month.

You wont regret it. If you cant afford brand new a 3 year old pantheon wont be that for off your budget.

Good wind and rain protection, good seating position. I rode all the way from My House in Kent to Silverstone Race course (about 140 miles) and didnt get sore arse which is a bonus no trouble.

Can easily keep out of the way of traffic and once you pass your test its still good enough and fast enough for motorway work.

Cheers carl for the info, just what I'm looking for.

From what I know of bikes (literally zilch) honda made a few nice 125cc's around '89, I'd prefer to go for a proper bike 125 rather than a super scooter because then I get used to it for the bigger bikes (My ultimate is a yamaha R1, but along with a Skoda Octavia VRS I think I'll have to make a choice sooner or later)
