Good evening all.
I am wondering if I could get some advice on behalf of my brother.
A while back in April, he had got a new phone because his old one had broken last minute but didn't have his railcard on his new phone, and he still needed to travel by train that day to go back to uni. He had his tickect checked on a journey to Brighton and they gave him something to ask to prove that he did in fact have a valid railcard, as the RPI said it was fine as long as in fact he did have a valid railcard.
However, basically my dad messed up and accidentally sent my brother the details of the wrong railcard which he sent to GTR as he wanted to resolve it quickly. It was a railcard in my dad's name, (one he accidentally purchased in his name when trying to purchase one for my brother, as my dad is defintley not 16-25! And do not worry my dad and my brother both do not use this railcard at all and never have!). He has now received a letter regarding this with the intent to prosecute. He has already responded to the letter and sent the details of the correct railcard, which is in his name which is valid, and was valid at the time he travelled in April, back to GTR.
I'm just wondering what is likely to be the outcome of this? He had a valid railcard while he was in possession of his original train ticket back in April, there was just a mess up and he send the wrong railcard to GTR initially. Ultimately, I'm not entirely sure on what the railway bylaw is and he did not have his railcard on him when he travelled on the train back in April but he was in possession of a valid railcard at the time of both purchasing his ticket and travelling on the train.
