Does anyone notice what advert banners are on the site each day, I seem to be getting Thomson Cruises, House of Fraser and KLM today. I don't want to give these companies too much publicity (), but is there some form of detection software at work to determine the advert or is it purely based on IP address?

Or, have you blocked them using a Flash blocker?

I know some sites use tracking cookies (i.e. one time I looked at games on Amazon, went to a different forum and saw adverts for the games I had just looked at from Amazon) but on this site for the past while I've only ever got Thomson cruises! :P

Once had an advert on here for Blackburn Rovers FC season tickets.

Sometimes I've seen this thing called AdChoices, which must use detection software on the forums. There's a supermarkets thread going on and it's advertising Ocado online grocery shopping...:p

The adverts I get are usually related to my internet searches, so I guess there is some sort of tracking involved.

All I'm getting at the moment is Thomson Cruises, which has never been searched for.

Maybe they are trying to tell me something......

The latest ad I see is for Cruise Connections! Not really a coincidence as I was looking at cruises earlier having seen an item about Cunard on a TV shopping channel last night!

If you had young grandchildren perhaps that liked Beano Gifts? The advert might not be directly aimed at you. ;)

Point taken, but how do they then know of my age? I must confess, the usual adverts are for "business" based items of the more "corporate" type which would reflect my life, prior to retirement. The current banner advert is now Fusion Business Solutions which is not unlike some of the services offered by a division of our Consultancy.

I also tend to receive adverts for European rail journeys...Bernina Express being a very regular advert. The trouble is that I had made so very many journeys in the past on express trains such as this, that they "lost all their magic" years ago and became a mundane method of business travel.

Whenever I look at the thread about through rail tickets to calais, I get ads for Brittany ferries who only operate western channel routes!

i quite like the Thomson cruises one. They're one of the very few cruise lines that have ships that you'd want to look at.

Spookily, given that there's currently a thread about it on here, I'm getting Tesco Price Drop at the bottom of the page...

Now got double Lexus ad's:lol:

I wish I had Lexus ads, the IS F is awesome!

Though despite the fact that I've taken two holidays with them in the space of three years, and have booked another one for next year, I'm still getting Thomson adverts this morning!

Sometime back I searched for some anti-slip tape, found Screwfix had it so nipped down and bought a roll.Next day I visited a forum simular to this one and found the banner advertising..you guessed it..Screwfix anti-slip tape.Puzzled at this I started a thread about it and it was quite amusing what some people where getting. Now it seems you can disable this feature but the forum owners receive an income from it so I left well alone.
