Advance ticket York - Colchester

Dear all,

I'd like to go from York to Colchester on an advance single ticket. Am I right that can take any train from London to Colchester ("Only valid on booked London North Eastern Railway services and required connecting services.")?

19:17 - York
21:10 - London Kings Cross
(London North Eastern Railway)

Take the Tube from London Kings Cross to London Liverpool Street

22:00 - London Liverpool Street
22:46 - Colchester
(Greater Anglia)

Since this is a journey where a cross-London transfer on the Underground is permitted, it won't be available to fulfil as an eTicket. So you will have a paper ticket, meaning that if you select a non-reservable service (such as the 22:00) then it will not be printed on the ticket.

That means in practice you can take any 'appropriate connecting service', for example an earlier train if you make it to Liverpool Street quicker than the padded official timings suggest.

In theory you should avoid 'reservable' services such as to 21:30 to Norwich, but there is no public rule which states this so if you manage to make that train, I wouldn't be too worried about taking it.
