I'm travelling from Cambridge to Oxford and bought an advance ticket via the forum's booking site. To my surprise, the printed ticket has only the Cambridge-London train, with no details at all about the trains to take between Paddington and Oxford.

What trains can I then take between London and Oxford? The original booked itineary has me changing at Didcot Parkway. Would I be able to take the direct train to Oxford? (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:P08356/2025-10-31#allox_id=0)

Technically you're only allowed to take non-reservable services
On any unreserved portion of an Advance ticket's journey, yes.

but I don't think the TM will care
There wouldn't usually be a TM on the service the OP linked to, since it terminates at Oxford and therefore runs 'DOO' (as shown on the RTT link).

Of course there could always be revenue inspectors onboard, or a TM who is booked to 'assist' (I.e. check tickets but with no operational responsibilities). There could also be issues at the gateline at either end.

But I agree the likelihood is that the OP would 'get away' with doing it.

Thank you!

Funnily enough the question ended up being somewhat moot since delays on the Cambridge-London leg and the underground made me miss the 20:20 stopper and just barely making my preferred 20:23 train directly to Oxford.
