I have an advance ticket for 23 August New Pudsey to Manchester Airport. The ticket shows reservation but no booked seat on the following trains. My flight is at 11.00 so I have allowed three hours.
NPD dep 5.53. MCV arr 7.01 dep 7.15. SLD arr 7.21 dep 7.34. MIA arr 8.00
On four days so far this week, the above trains have only run as planned on one. On the other three, at least one has been cancelled or run significantly late. In all cases, the situation would be redeemable but what about the advance ticket restrictions?
I`m asking two questions. (1) There is also a 7.08 from Manchester Vic to Salford Crescent. Clearly I can use this if the 7.15 is cancelled. But what if I am in time for the 7.08 and the 7.15 is shown as running. That is not a guarantee that it will actually run. I have plenty of experience otherwise. It would be reckless to watch the 7.08 go and then find that the 7.15 didn`t. But could I be penalty fared or worse for being on the wrong train for this short intermediate section of the journey?
(2) I wouldn`t go to Salford Crescent at all unless I knew that the 7.34 thence to the Airport was on its way from Blackpool. But would I have any difficulty abandoning the advance ticket part of the journey at Man Vic?
Apologies if this sounds rather trivial. Common sense would say no problem at all but I am neurotic since being threatened with prosecution for being on the "wrong" train when I was following written instructions to complete a disrupted journey.
