Hi There

I booked 3 X advance tickets from Euston - Manchester for this Saturday a couple of weeks ago

Ive collected the ticket, and there is a not on there saying Adult Standard Class with Corporate C, any ideads what the Corporate C is? I didnt enter any rail cards, though I do have a Virgin credit card and booked it through their portal, perhaps it is a discount from this

Thanks
Chris

Can you post a picture of the tickets (suitably redacting any personally identifiable details such as ticket number, card name and 8-digit collection reference number)?

Just a standard corporate discount. Nothing to worry about - congratulations you saved some money! I don't know how exactly the corporate discounts work but they are given to business travel websites etc, so Virgin probably give discounts to their sister companies too, you won't be asked to show a railcard or other proof.

Corporate in my experience has shown on tickets when I book for 3 or more passengers I believe it is some random thing for group tickets

Could the corporate discount be another word for group save in this case?

I'm just waiting for the OP to come back to us and tell us that the Euston gateline wouldn't let them through without their "Corporate C Railcard".

Indeed; unfortunately this possibility cannot be ruled out.

The now defunct FCC (since replaced by GTR) had some revenue inspectors who thought that anyone who has an online discount applied to their ticket should hold a "discount railcard" and illegally issued Penalty Fares as a result.

Unfortunately there are insufficient safeguards in place to prevent the unlawful charging of customers by unknowledgable staff :(

What would be the best thing to do if we are stopped on the gate/train?
Get there in plenty of time. If possible, avoid barrier issues by looking up the platform before it's officially announced, using RealTrainTimes or the like: sometimes the barrier is unstaffed and open before the platform is officially announced. If anyone demands that you buy new tickets, make sure to note their name and appearance; ask them to write down why they say the tickets aren't valid and to sign this.

That way, you will be in a strong position to claim back anything you are made to pay in order to travel.
