Advance Ticket Oddity

Hi all,

I purchased an advance single from Ely to Tottenham Hale (see attached, booking/collection info at bottom redacted) and collected at a ticket machine using my card and a collection reference.

My confusion is that the booked journey time is not printed on the ticket (as is normally there), so I had a couple of questions:

Is this ticket valid without the booking reference?

Given that ‘on specified trains & connections only’ is printed but without any specified train or restriction listed on the ticket, does this mean the ticket is valid for any journey using any valid route on 09-SEP-24 (I don’t intend to do this, I’m just curious on the technicality!)?

Many thanks!

You could probably argue your case for that, in line with other threads. However, a train manager can fairly simply figure out that the £5.60 fare means you bought the OS1 on route 00420 which has this text when buying the ticket 'Only valid on booked Greater Anglia services and required connecting services.' - so however the train manager interprets that, which I imagine will be less flexible than 'Any Permitted', but clearly more flexible than 'fixed train'. They could though ask to see your booking confirmation to understand which trains you chose to get that price, and go from there, it depends how diligent they are, and of course on what if anything is then presented.

I bought a couple of advance singles last week for travel on Greater Anglia (Stratford to Norwich and v.v.), purchased from the Southern website.

They were similar to the OP's, without any booked train info.

I seem to remember a similar thread here a while ago but can't remember the TOC involved.

I've just booked an advance return journey on this site's 'Train Split' website (as two singles ).

The outward journey (EMR) has the train info on the CCST, but the return (TPE) has the train info on a separate ticket, (along with the seat reservation). The 'main' part of the TPE advance simply states "Specified TPE trains & connections only", nowhere on this 'main' (advance single) ticket does it say to refer to the additional ticket.
