ok just wondering if this can be done. here's the scenario. I want to go from Carmarthen to Bristol Parkway. The ticket I want to buy is an anytime day return from Carm to Cardiff = £16. On NRE there are advance tickets from Cardiff to Bristol PW for £3. Can you buy this ticket at the Carmarthen TVM or will I need to get off at Cardiff and buy it there? I'm just thinking to do this so I can stay on the train at Cardiff and continue my journey with the advance ticket.

You have to buy Advance tickets in Advance so they won't be available at all on the day.

Another name for them are Advance Purchase ;)

Edit: Also Advance Purchase tickets are usually only available at stations, online or through telesales - TVM's won't do them unless it is via TOD

Just remember that the CDF-BPW ticket is for one train only.

sorry I should have been clearer. I want to buy the advance tickets on the NRE site and the code they send you is punched into the TVM to get your tickets I think is it? so my question is, will the TVM at Carmarthen issue me with a ticket between two other stations, i.e. Cardiff to BPW? I do know that I must buy two £3 tickets out/return

When you go further through the booking process it will take you to a page where you can select where you want to pick them up - AFAIAA Carmarthen is on the list.

Side Note: Even if you specify a station, you can pick it up at any TOD station on the network.

AFAIK you will be able to collect the tickets from any TVM with the relevant reference number / card.

Yes, that's surely right. (e.g. I once picked up an advance ticket for the journey Shrewsbury to Swansea from a TVM at Southend Central)
