I made 2 Virgin First Advance Reservations through East Coast some time ago, and now wish to change the date.

The original fares were £34.00, and checking online (through East Coast, where I made the booking) I see £99.00 fares available on the 16th April 1840 Euston-Manchester Piccadilly. The Virgin website shows £74.00 fares available.

However, at Huddersfield Station I was told that no First Advance Fares were available on either the 1840 or 1900 services, and when I attempt to amend the reservation on the East Coast website, the best I am offered is £239.00! ( 2 x £153.50, less the £34.00 already paid). I then ring East Coast Web Support, and I am told that they can not upgrade me to the £99.00 fare (although they can find it on 'another system'), but they say if I make a fresh booking for that fare, and then call back, they will credit me with the difference.

This I have done, and the relevant information was on my account , so I expect to receive the refund when I have submitted the unused tickets. Both the East Coast Web Support staff were helpful and efficient, but what a mess!

How is it that First TPE, Virgin and East Coast all have different notions of the Advance Fares available for the same service? Do Operators sell different quotas through different websites?

I wouldnt think so as FTPE & Virgin use 'thetrainline' and East Coast us a different system called ??? .

Hope this helps.

I know in the end that they all connect to the same system - but there may be a 'distribution' system between WEBTIS & 'thetrainline'.
