Having been buying tickets from my local station (Fleet) to Stoke on Trent recently I have become curious about the availability or otherwise of ADV tickets.
Sometimes I can get extremely low priced ADV tickets from Fleet to Stoke via Euston. Fairly frequently all that is offered is relatively expensive OP or Open tickets. I also check from Basingstoke and often there are ADV tickets (via London) from there when there aren't from Fleet. And then as a last resort there are Euston which are pretty much always available at some price point or another.
So how does the availability of ADV tickets work? These examples have all happened at various lengths of pre booking and various days of the week. Surely a Fleet-Stoke advance is just a Euston-Stoke advance plus whatever the Euston-Fleet element is? If so why aren't they available all the time when Euston-Stokes always are and Basingstoke to Stokes often are?
