Adrian Shooter has written to Chiltern staff today to announce his retirement at the end of the year. He will stand down as Chairman after Christmas and will be replaced by Steve Murphy who is currently at LOROL. Sad to see the Boss go, just hope Arriva dont start interfering once he's off the scene.

That's a real shame. Adrian is a really nice bloke and he has worked wonders with the Chiltern franchise. It has been a pleasure to work under him.

Sad to hear about this, Adrian Shooter was the best BR Chairman we never had. If the Tory's hadn't messed up with the botched privatisation and we had kept BR. I am sure that the skill, expertise and forward thinking he brought to Chiltern, would have been brought to the whole Network. I wish him all the best and I just wonder where the next generation of true Railway Bosses are going to come from.

Sad news. I can't help wondering if there's more to this than meets the eye. Very surprised he's not staying to see the Oxford project through.

Thats also bloody good news for LOROL................. NOT!
Seems like the LOROL Management team are leaving to what can now be described as a sinking ship. It seems that after all the good work put in by this team will all be undone by a new breed of senior Managers with different ideas that will no doubt affect the workers.
At least one thing will be certain when the olympics are over, and the staff cuts are imposed it will be done by a group of faceless Managers.

Actually nowhere in the statement does it mention Steve Murphy, Rob Brighouse who has only just left LOROL to take up Adrians former role is the person. So perhaps if the OP could show us a copy of that letter it may help.

Not quite...Rob Brighouse has left LOROL to take up Cath Proctor's former rôle! Adrian was Chairman and Acting Managing Director.
Slightly odd that the Chiltern Press Release doesn't name the replacement Chairman though...unless the relevant formal notifications have yet to be made.

More likely the offices of St Mary's House, Cardiff where a certain Mr Holland is based. The two do not get on by all accounts, Mr Shooter is a railwayman whereas Mr Holland is most certainly not...

So where is this Mr Holland, he does appear as important within the land of leather as this crowd. I do know however a certain Mr Bagshaw,
was once employed by Chiltern, do you mean him. Most certainly no love among those two when Mr Shooter remained at Chiltern.

The fact that the Chiltern Press release does not mention Steve Murphy may be due to that Adrians letter was sent out to his staff at Chiltern, I am told that the senior managers were informed of his decision a few minutes before the letter was sent out by email to all other staff. Prehaps this due to some form of loyalty to his staff who in the main have supported his plans for Chiltern over the years...

no doubt the DfT will be pleased about this...
i say that because i seem to recall having read and heard over the past 5-10 years that the DfT (and the SRA before) had wanted to move class 165s away from chiltern... and im pretty sure in the most recent cases (and probably previously), that Mr Shooter told the DfT where to go... that the units were needed for the chiltern region and CRs services...
no doubt , as has been suggested above, once mr shooter goes... DB/Arriva will stick someone into the position that will do exactly what they want... acording to the current parent company wishes, plots and plans... as opposed to what is best for the local company, region and customers....
a great loss... i just home that one of the other big rail operators make mr shooter an offer to head their local or national rail operations... First Group, GO Ahead or that lot that run Northern and MerseyRail could do a lot worse than to take on an experienced railway man like mr. shooter
