This stock was brought in to the UK by FGW a few years ago with a great fanfare, ran on the Cardiff to London service for a while, and then disappeared!

Can anyone tell me where the stock has gone to, please?

:? :)

Some are with Hull Trains, and some are with Grand Central - I think there are some more elsewhere, but i'm sure others will fill you in!

Northern have got 3 on loan from East Coast. Currently Hull Trains are using 4 and Grand Central have 4 available (I think!). 2 are currently parked at Bounds Green and one more is at Glasgow Works.

Eventual plan at the moment is for Hull Trains to have 4, Grand Central to have 5 and East Coast to have 5.

And they were returned to the leasing company by FGW due to chronic unreliability, to be replaced by additional refurbished and re-engined HST stock.

Ah, okay, thanks for your answers ... I was also wondering why they left FGW as well, but forgot to ask, but you've answered that as well!

I saw one at Picaddilly a few months back, in Northern Rail's purple take on the FGW livery. Having lived on the N. Wales coast with 175s in Barbie(?) livery running past, it was just different enough in colour and shape to be unnerving.

I think they should be brought back to Wales at some point, as we have the only other MU they can couple with!

Seeing as East Coast is now back under the control of the government, is there still a need for them to retain 180's? What i mean is, will the proposed Lincoln service still happen, or will the government with other worries knock it on the head, leaving East Coasts 180's surplus?

Good question... !

Maybe FGW want to sub-lease one to keep up the driver's route knowledge for some reason (say, the Lincoln service doesn't go ahead and East Coast no longer wants the three 180s subleased to Northern), which means FGW once again wants to use a few 180s.

Nope, they'd have to apply to DfT and poss. ORR to get the 180s back. OOC is still where the Adelantes have been based for most of their life; I would guess that some staff have expertise that could be needed that NT don't have at Newton Heath, or at Crofton. IIRC 102 and 101 were always the most troublesome 180s.

I thought East Coast would be using two sets of doubled up 180s for a portion working and want the fifth one so they don't have to cancel a service in the event of a unit failure.

How would that work with the guard? Would they be restricted to only being in the rear 5 coaches of the 10 coach train with a Ticket Inspector looking after the front 5 coaches?

Rumour has it that the Hull Trains stock will have their larger exams and component changes at Old Oak Common and 180102 is going next week for them to have a bit of a play with.

If only First had ordered one big class, rather than these three diddy classes - 175/ 180/ 185

It was NWT who ordered the 175/180 the 180s were diverted to FGW.

When the 185s were ordered some 7/8 years later Alstom had closed the production lines, First like SWT were impressed with Siemens Products so went down that route

I was on a 3 car uni last week, it wasnt rush hour tho, but it was really nice

I love the 3 car ones but 2 car ones are to busy lol, it sickens me to see 2 car 175's on the Manchester's during rush hour and a 3 car 175 on the Maesteg's.

I'm assuming the 180 at OOC is inside? otherwsie would it be easy to phot, as i havn't seen one for yonks and i'm in London next week

According to our local MP this is going to still happen, knowing the way railways work it won't connect in with the Grimsby line and the EMT Lincoln - Newark service will probably still run following the direct train by 10 minutes (starting back at Grimsby)<D

to be fair it doesn't happen very often and most of the time it does happen it's only 2 cars on the maestegs/cheltenhams. When you've got stock displaced you've got to run what's left over.

Shame the 175/180 fleets are so darned unreliable, because when they do work they're a damn good unit.

Pretty much sport on, OOC does the work on Hull Trains Adelantes, largley because of the vast amount of knowledge that the oak has on these things...

Well, thats what im told by a good friend of mine anyway, based at the oak...
