When FGW get rid of the Adelante's, what would be the chances of them ending up on Hull Trains and TPE as a joint fleet, with a further cascade of Sprinters from TPE. The Pioneers go to EMT, who then cascade the same number of HST to FGW.....

and so the merry-go-round goes on.

Those that need to know - KNOW!!!
I was always under the impression that the 180s would continue with First Group somewhere else in the country more than likely to be up north I would suggest Scotland wher a small poll like this could be utilised on the core long haul highland / east coast routes and high speed ED - GQS where extra seating would benefit

FHT will deffinately not be getting rid of their pioneers. There is a lot of discussion about the 180's. FTPE wanted them in a joint pool with FSR to run the NW Glasgow services as well as some long distance fsr services, however fsr werent too kean on this idea as their depots would need to be adusted. I have heard other rumours but thats pure speculation...however i would think that some or all would stay within first group rail.

FSR, that was the latest I'd heard about the TPE/FSR joint ownership, which would be a very good idea IMO. Reliability aside, they would be very good on Inverness services and would certainly beat 185s on GLC-MAN runs.

I've also heard that HT would/could get a unit to supplement it's Pioneer fleet, as one has been damaged considerably.

Whatever happens, I think it would be safe to assume that they will remain in the First Group during this shuffle.

Um, very slim, because the TPE swap that you say, a)Theres no 158's left and B)I can't see a 158 being allocated the 0952 London-Hereford

Personally I think they should stay doing what there doing!

Well, if it's going back into service, there's no need for that unit. I still think the TPE/FSR shared fleet would be a good idea, though.

FGW/FSR share would be better. TPE have got a massive order of new stock. Or should the SW continue to rot?

And where do you suggest the common depot and diagraming for FSR / FGW?

At least with FSR / TPE services, they will be in the same city and can be diagramed to go into Edinburgh as FSR and leave as TPE to Manchester.

Not sure that FSR (with 2 hourly services on the Inverness route) would want to have such ans unreliable fleet. At least if a 170 or 158 goes wrong you can step up another unit, or run short-formed.

The problems with my suggestion include reliability. But:

1) The shared pool on my mind would be based at Glasgow, possibly Polmadie or Shields depots. Probably a couple at Edinburgh would be useful as well, and on certain services to Aberdeen they could also prove useful, as these can be very busy at times.
2) They would run long distance Scotrails but more likely TPE Glasgow-Manchesters, where the higher capacity would be of benifit to the passengers.

This also allows a casceade of rolling stock in FSR, releasing 170s to replace 158s, which in turn replace many 156s which allows more 156 units to be used to lengthen busy trains in Strathclyde.

I believe, though, that there is a plan to move 170s to Shotts and use the released 156s to strengthen formations, so this would really be more useful in upgrading class 158 services to more comfortable and longer turbostar trains.

And I don't see why the SW still want them: they have huge reliability problems. Why not dump them elsewhere?

Because they are nice trains and are threatening such routes as the Paddington-Exeter stoppers as unless they get CDL sorted on HSTs stations will be cut and journey times will be longer and more uncomfortable! Why should the north get all the new/decent stock. Not like we are about to get 12 pacers of anything

Polmadie is WC trains (only the FSR Sleeper stabled there) and Shields is EMU's. You could base it as Corkerhill or Eastfield (Eastfield only has light maintenance facilities I think).
