On my merry way to Crewe sidings by taxi at 04.00 on Sat (12 Dec) I noticed two class 180 coaches on low loaders parked at the roundabout just off the M6 Jct16 (A500)
Anyone any idea as to where they were headed? Sorry i didn't see any numbers, just a driving coach and what looked like one of the middle coaches.

No idea if it's related but i've heard rumours of 180's returning to pad-cdf workings on the gwml, whether it's true I don't know?

Sorry i cant be of much use to you as i have no idea where they were headed...But my only guess could be Bombardier Crewe Works, Either that or heading back to Crofton...

It might have been heading to Wolverton ;) Railcare do a lot of work on the 180s, most heavy work in fact.

Why would an Alstom built train be heading to a competitor's works???

Becasue Bombardier carries out at least some maintenance on Hull Trains 180s at Crofton...

Could well have been going to Wolverton, but from Crewe?

Ooh, I can thunk of a few reasons why. It could be from 180105 going for refurb and relivery because 114 should be released fairly soon after refurb and relivery. It could also be one of the units taken on for the Bradford services, 101 is likely as 107 is still with HT. 101 is apparently 'broken' and needs attention to be able to work.

Thanks to all for the info!
I still think it would have been quicker and cheaper running it to it's destination. The cost of the two low loaders i saw must have been horrendous!

Not necessarily, costs a fair few quid to run a train you know!

Diesel costs, track access costs etc, also it may not be ready to run, hence why it was going for maintenance.

OK, change of plan. It wasn't 105 because it was seen by a friend working the 1750 ex Sunderland today, so, i decree that it was, if for GC, 101 going for repair for preparation for the Bradford services due to its "broken" status...
