Evening all,

I noticed on the Southern online Journey Planner that there is a train leaving Eastbourne at 08.22 for London Victoria tomorrow, calling at Brighton only and there is also a non-stop Victoria to Eastbourne service at 18.21 tomorrow.

Ive never seen these before and to run near enough non-stop is odd. Are they for passenger use and if they are specials, what will be running them ?

Thanks

Tom

EDIT - Just checked the Southern timetable and it shows the 08.22 running as non-stop to London Bridge and theres a 17.44 return of that journey. Its quite confusing as they both suggest different.

They are additionals, mainly for foreign students, and as you say normally run to London Bridge but are running to Victoria this Saturday. They used to be booked for a 10 442, but it may have been changed this year.

So would normal tickets be valid for travel on them ? And its marked on the Southern timetable with a square, which they also use for the weekday 442's to/from London Bridge, so it probably is a 442, which should mean some space around the train.

From this weekend (SAT 25 June) it will operate via Brighton (Lots of students
in Brighton) and through to London VICTORIA - unfortunately it will be formed by
12x377 stock.....

Next week however (2nd July) it looks to be formed of a 10x442 - and WILL again
be scheduled via FALMER and Brighton as below.

Revised student times -

EASTBOURNE 0822
BRIGHTON 0851
BRIGHTON 0858
VICTORIA 0954

VICTORIA 1821
BRIGHTON - via Plumpton
EASTBOURNE 1952

I think it means it runs via Plumpton, instead of Brighton.

I used both the additional trains today. The 08.22 was formed of a 12 car 377 and arrived into Victoria 5 down and the 18.21 was formed of a 9 car 377 (dont think one of these has made it to Eastbourne before) and arrived about 5 early, depite 2 10 minute stops outside Haywards Heath, then for a driver change at the station. Surprisingly, even though both trains were being shown as "Student Specials", no students were actually on either service.
