I was on the 07:30 Newcastle to London Kings Cross and was travelling to Doncaster for personal reasons. After arriving at Durham there was an announcement that we would be held due to an incident at Darlington and there was no further information. After a while it was annouced that there was no available information except the line was closed in both directions due to it being a fatality. At this point it was clear that it would be a fair while before the line would reopen, this meant I would not be able to make my reason to go down in time. I decided to head back home, I went across to the Northbound platform and caught a Northern service.
I was talking to one of the staff on the LNER train and mentioned I was using my pass and that was now a wasted box, he said but he wasn't sure that I might be able to ask for a additional box for not having fulfilled the journey.
I contacted RST about this and the lass who I spoke with gave me a reference number and asked me to email them with the details and photo's of my dated boxes.
They replied saying ''that as I had already filled my box and and started my journey and the disruption did not cause you to abandon your journey at the start station, you're not eligible for the box to be reissued''
I am slightly confused with the reason regards the ''start station'' obviously you fill the date in before getting on the train and noone was able to know about the disruption until it happened which in short stopped the journey, especially only managing to get to Durham.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?
