Is it possible when buying an advance ticket to add extra connection time? I'm booking a first class ticket for my mum for a Northern commuter train into Manchester Picc then Avanti to London. I'd like to give her about 45-50 mins in Piccadilly so she's not stressing about time and has a chance to get a coffee in the Avanti lounge if it's open. Yes, I know she'll be covered if say her initial train is delayed/cancelled but I want to minimise possible stress for her.

I can't see this an option on either Avanti or Northen websites. Do I need to buy each leg as a separate journey?

Thanks

Using the forum's ticket site allows extra time to be specified in an itinerary, including for advance tickets.

Although it is better if you specify a change point and the amount of time required there. That removes the possibility of being given extra time at a different station to that intended.

If the Northern service is a route where there is no advanced ticket option could you get an earlier service anyway?

There are fewer and fewer such routes now. Most commuter routes into Manchester have counted place reservations on the trains. Indeed, are there any routes that don't?
