To get the best non-safeguarded PRIV rate going cross London by tube I start my regular tickets at Acton Main Line (AML).

Yesterday though while going to Bedford (BDM) on entry at St Pancras the gate gave a 125 (125/126 Origin/Destination not listed as valid for entry/exit here). And ditto on the way back.

But how else do you get on a reasonable speed train to BDM ??? Thameslink takes double the journey time.

Any ideas ?

Firstly barriers don't always get it right.

Did the gateline staff let you through? The validity shouldn't be affected by whether your train is EMT or Thameslink as there are no operator-specific fares between Acton Main Line and Bedford. Sometimes Thameslink trains go from the upper level platforms anyway.

Barriers have to be exhaustively programmed with a list of tickets to accept (or "accept anything other than what is on this list"). Whoever programmed them simply omitted that particular entry.
