I am planning a visit to Acton Main Line Station, London in the near future for observing and hopefully photographing workings that pass through this location.
As I have no experience of visiting this station in the past I am asking for some advice on, for example best position to be in, which platform to be on, etc.
Also is there any cover there to get some shade from the sun, as this hot spell is forecast to continue for a week or so.
I thank you in advance for any forth coming advice.

Best regards Richard Smith.

The London bound platform is best for freight into and out of Acton Yard. From the Reading bound platform you can see all main line traffic. From memory there is no shade so come protected.

That's correct; there is currently no shade at all on the platforms - apart from the thin shadows of the lamp posts.

Just remember to tell the TfL Rail member of staff as some can be edgy with folk hanging around the station
