Does anyone know if there is a published directory available to buy that features all known acronyms, plus text-message "shorts" such as FWIW, etc.

"All known acronyms" is going to be a toughie! Virtually any specialised field will have their own, so there could be twenty or more meanings for some acronyms.
I do find that Google can be of assistance, though. Just prefix the acronym in question with "define:" and it'll have a stab.
