Acronym for bi-mode MU

So we have DMU, DEMU and EMU happily established but the IEP order throws something of a spanner in to the works. What is the industry acronym for a bi-mode hybrid electric/diesel multiple unit? Is there one? If not, is there an amusing backronym that someone can come up with? Is it just a DEMU that gets its distinction as a bi-mode DEMU with a pantograph from its class number?

I don't think anyone properly refers to 'hybrid' in the context of IEP. Hybrid was the terminology used to describe the diesel/battery trial using a NR Class 43.

Indeed, the term hybrid would be inappropriate in this context.
The "Hayabusa" class 43 hybrid trial, demonstrated the diesel/battery hybrid powerplant that Hitachi had originally intended to fit into the IEP SET's (HST style), before the plan to use power cars was scrapped in favour of underfloor engines.

We don't call them DUs or EUs though. It's EDMU, as stated further up.

DMU — Diesel Multiple Unit (1xx, 6xx, potentially 8xx) — Engine power, Mechanical or Hydraulic traction
EMU — Electric Multiple Unit (3xx, 4xx, 5xx, 7xx, 8xx) — OHLE or Third-Rail power, Electric traction
DEMU — Diesel-Electric Multiple Unit (2xx, 6xx, potentially 8xx) — Engine power, Electric traction
EDMU — Electrodiesel Multiple Unit (8xx, potentially 7xx) — OHLE or Third-Rail or Engine power, Electric traction

Multiple unit means "a unit that can work in multiple". So yes, a 153 is an MU.

Descriptive abbreviations can be a case of shifting sands; there was a time, during the 1960s, when the Eastern Region did infact recognise the term DU, particularly on the Great Eastern Section, spreading further afield from around 1968 although by the 1970s the term DMU was in common use. Railcars, Diesel Trains, DUs, DMUs were terms used over the years but no definition lead to as much controversy as the debate as to whether they were passenger carrying locomotives or self propelled carriages; the mix of former Carriage & Wagon and Motive Power staff on the maintenance depots stood as proof of that particular sticking point for many years.
