Does anyone have information on the future of the Achenseebahn in Tirol? We’re planning to go to Innsbruck when it’s possible, and would like to experience this steam rack railway again. Last I heard was in April when it was threatened with closure. Thanks.

The last I heard was that there would be no trains this year but they hope to be running again next year thanks to local authority financial support.
I suspect it's a 'watch this space' thing...

Edit:
Breaking news! According to various recent news reports, the Achenseebahn will not reopen, will have to be dismantled and 100M€ spent on dealing with 'contaminated material'.

I still think it's probably a 'watch this space' thing...

That would be a shame if it did close. I have been on it a couple of times, boarding at Jenbach, where there is another heritage line too.

There is no other heritage line in Jenbach. The Zillertalbahn is an active line with an intensive DMU-service and some steam excursions for tourists.

Is this place twinned with the station on the Kyle of Lochalsh line between Achanalt and Achnashellach? ;)

At one stage they were planning to operate a regular commuter service using some ex-Appenzeller Bahnen electric railcars and driving trailers. If popular I'd imagine that would have really helped their financial position.

Ok, thank you for clarifying that.
