Accused of reusing a open return ticket

There’s a simple solution…

Which is for integration between the app and ticket scan databases, that would make a ticket as used only when either

1. The ticket has been exit scanned at the destination station
2. The ticket has expired based on time

Of course option 1. is likely in the "too difficult" category for the railway.

And 1 would be impossible at the many stations which don't have barriers at the destination station where the ticket doesn't have to be scanned to exit, other than the occassional appearance of revenue protection staff.

If you're sure it wasn't used, then write in and ask for a refund.


Got to be honest, can't really work out how this happened. If someone shows me a ticket I don't care what folder it's in on their phone, it's the message I get from my phone after scanning it that should inform my decision.

But that's exactly the same as happens with paper tickets at those stations. It's up to you whether it's pocket or bin.
