Anyone looking for a guest house in Plymouth for a base for Devon/Cornwall - The Phantele is highly recommended. Two minutes' walk from Devonport station, fantastic chippy around the corner and a decent real ale bar on the same street.

Stayed at Epsom Travelodge Friday. It felt like the scene from the Blue Brothers with Chicago L trains going past the window.
See attached picture, sorry for poor quality, dirty windows and overgrowth didn't help.

If it was just durty windows then that was good going. Not used that one but most others in the London area are dirty in general it would seam

Having stayed for a few nights this weekend (not related to travelling directly, as I was in Kidde for a wedding) I would recommend Travelodge Kidderminster.
It is fairly new and was quiet and comfortable.
What I'm sure many will like is there is a pub within the same car park (though they're not open for breakfast unfortunately) - the food there was also good and not too badly priced.
From a point of view of travelling, the station is a good 15-20 minute walk away (we did the journey to meet a friend) though the only words of warning would be the walk does involve a few subways (probably not ideal late at night if alone) and going to the station, it is a bloomin' steep hill to get up!

Stayed at the Atlantic Wharf Travelodge in Cardiff on Monday.
Very Handy for Cardiff Bay station just across the road or the BayCar bus to central Cardiff. Also, just a short stroll to the waterfront for the water bus to Cardiff Central or Cardiff Castle.
It's just been refurbished so the room was immaculate. And free parking too.

I've booked into the Atlantic Wharf Travelodge on Tuesday night as part of a trip to South Wales - including all the Valley Lines and the Heart of Wales. Decided it was too much to do there and back in a day, plus taking a second day allowed me to include the HOWL.

I'm booked into the Wembley Ibis later this month. I've heard good things about the Ibis's from friends and while I know I could probably get nearer to central London - £45 per night would get me a flee pit in the centre. Only drawback is that I'm getting the coach, but that was only £13 return with NatEx

Hope you enjoy it. There's a Sainsbury's local and Tesco Express in the Bay area if you need to stock up on supplies. Quite a few bars and food places too. Unfortunately, the new Wetherspoons has not opened yet so couldn't use my CAMRA beer tokens.
Did the HOWL (Shrewsbury to Llanelli on a 153) and Valleys in 2011 - was most impressed by the upper reaches of most of the Valleys. Stayed at the Queen Street TL that time.
I'm in Watford Central Premier Inn right now (on business here), my window overlooks the main line, Fortunately has what looks like treble glazing plus a inner window.
Even numbered rooms overlook the line.
Clean comfortable room, no complaints.

The following Travelodge's have been stayed in by myself in the past couple of months:
Holyhead travelodge: There's a McDonalds near the hotel with long opening hours (went there for breakfast) and I didn't have any complaints about the room. The room overlooked a side street so didn't have any noise issues; however, road noise will be more noticeable if your room overlooks the main road due to the number of lorries using it
Wakefield Travelodge: Hotel is about 10-15 minute walk from station, and for food and free wifi there's a Wetherspoons a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Room was clean, but I couldn't find a way of turning off the intrusive night lights mounted on the bedstead.
Glasgow Central Travelodge: Hotel is a good 15 minute walk from Glasgow Central station. The bathroom was a bit grubby but otherwise the room was acceptable. There were lots of groups of clubbers staying there, so you may be woken up by people returning from a night out, although I didn't experience any problems with noise.
Norwich Central Travelodge: Hotel is a 20-25 minute walk from the station up a hill. The restaurant was overpriced, and while the room was clean it overlooked a main road, so I had to put up with a fair degree of traffic noise. However, for breakfast there's a Sainsburys with a store cafe across the road, which opens at 8am.

Verdict on the Wembley Ibis.
Nice room, though aircon was a bit "asthmatic through straw" so I had to open the window. Best London hotel I've stayed in so far (Nice, Cheap and Central is rare as hen's teeth in London - this one was Nice, Cheap but not Central)
If you are on the right side (like I was) you have the Chiltern Main Line and can see the WCML and Wembley WCML depot - If higher up I reckon you could see the Chiltern Depot

Recently stayed at Travelodge Norwich Central Riverside, only 5 mins from the station and pretty good.
Also Travelodge Meadowhall, literally 2 mins from the platforms to reception and easily the best Travelodge I've stayed in so far. You'd think you were at a Premier Inn rather than a Travelodge.

The standard arrangement is that there are 2 switches on the headboard at each side of the bed. Don't be fooled into thinking they both do the same - they don't. On one side you have one for the reading light and one for the main room light. On the other side you have one for the reading light and one for the orange night light on top of the headboard.
Another weekend, another location and another wedding!
So as per the last one I posted about Kidderminster, not a bashing trip (though I did make an afternoon visit to London whilst there, if that counts :P) but a weekend visit to Letchworth Garden City.
I stayed at The Broadway Hotel on errrr......Broadway! Location wise, it is fantastic, with only a 2 minute walk to the station and a similar amount of time from Letchworth Main St. Next door is a fair sized Morrisons supermarket and there is a Wetherspoons a few minutes walk away (although the hotel has a bar/restaurant too).
The hotel was clean and comfortable and staff were very polite and efficient. Food was also good (breakfast on a morning consisted of cereals/toast and preserves/Full English, all available to serve yourself)
The room rates all seem to include breakfast (at time of writing, served 7-10:30 Mon-Fri and 8-10:30 weekends) - there may be scope to negotiate if breakfast isn't required, but I couldn't be certain.
Although check-in is a relatively late 2pm, the hotel were OK with leaving luggage (I arrived at 12:30 and wanted a train at 1:30 to London, so being able to leave my case was useful)

It is a very good hotel. Just fifteen minutes walk from where I live, I often go there for breakfast or lunch. They do a cracking buffet!
Pity I wasn't at home while you were in town, it could've been my first opportunity to meet another forum member!

This is overseas, not UK, but deserves a mention:
Timhotel ( French budget hotel chain ) at 10 Rue Philippe Girard in Paris, just down the road from Gare du Nord.
Rooms 406 and ( presumably 506 ) above it have a perfect view of the approach to Gare de l'Est and the angle is ideal for photography; most of the morning the light is perfect as well. On a clear day the light will not be good later on, but in overcast conditions ( ironically! ) the afternoon light will not be a problem.
Rooms 405 and ( presumably 505 ) above it overlook the ends of the platforms at Est but are not at a good angle for photography.
Notwithstanding the warnings on this forum about the quality of the area around Paris Nord, the area seems to be safe enough that I observed a number of local women ( of the respectable sort, I hasten to add! ) walking alone at night and the area was quiet.

I can also recommend a hotel in Lourdes but will post that one later; I need to check the directions details for accuracy first as it is not next to the station although it is only a 45 second walk for lineside observations...

Stayed at the newish Travelodge on The Strand in Liverpool just around the corner from James Street station last week.
Views of the Albert Dock & the Three Graces from my front facing room.
Pretty good insulation for a Travelodge as well, considering it was facing an eight lane road.

On the subject of TL's, anyone stayed in the latest room design (new bed, decor etc) at iether a refurbed site or a 2013 new opening? I know Glasgow Central lodge is popular on here and its currently under refurb

Stayed at Altrincham Travelodge last week. In a fairly nice location, close to the tramway and rail station and lots in the vicinity including Tesco extra and Sainsbugs, plus a variety of places nearby for breakfast. Seems to be quite new inside (although the building itself is not; not that you'd know from inside).

I've stayed in a couple, didn't notice any difference really.
Managed to find somewhere else, but strangely enough I wasn't charged for the first one. 99% sure the booking went through alright as I had confirmation emails.
