Despite most of the buses from northern and central parts of the city passing within a few yards of the main entrance only one stops there.
The escalators between the low level station entrance and the main station have been closed for about two months.

Today two thirds of the stairs at the main entrance were closed off for repairs to the hotel, and the nearby lift was out of order.
On the way home I passed the incomplete works at Broad Green.

Is this just what we should expect in the north?

I have never found that lift to be particularly reliable on the few occasions that I have used or tried to use it.

Are the escalators under refurbishment at present?

I would refer the right honourable member to transport for London's escalators and works closures pages on their website where you will see that some of their projects can take a year or more to complete. And whilst this doesn't sound like it was amazingly well planned for a high use high traffic escalator Bank like that, it's not going to be a quick job. I wouldn't have thought

It does seem to be a pretty substantial rebuild of the escalators, which were getting on a bit.

If you think two months is a long time the subway has been closed for twelve months at Broad Green for installation of lifts and they do not expect to complete the job for anuther six months.
