abs and other problems with cold weather

stood at ash this morning. the swr service to Guildford came in on the opposite platform. heard lots of hisses and noticed that the wheels were slipping and then gripping. is this a form of abs.

also major tracking from the shoes picking up power, almost blinding like an arc welder

also gwr 165 having issues gaining traction. would not like to be a train driver this morning

Yes it's a form of ABS known as WSP (Wheel Slide Protection). It also drops sand onto the rails.

A colleague told me last week that he had trouble down the Reading Road and was late at Sunningdale on the up road which can be a bit notorious running down the bank.

As he ran in they all started tapping their watches.

Definitely not an enjoyable time of year in the train drivers calendar.

Unfortunately the general public see it as some sort of ‘excuse.’

Whilst passengers are known to whinge, I've never, ever seen the watch tapping at my home station before, especially not aimed at a driver.

I have,many times,that's if I don't get the Nescafe signal.Once after arriving about one hour late at Salisbury I got the slow hand clap from some bloke who looked like he was dressed up as a general.Of course I didn't want to be an hour late but that day circumstances didn't help.
