Aberpergwm coal mine reopening

News is that the coal mine at Aberpergwm in South Wales is to reopen, most of the anthracite destined for Port Talbot steel works. I think it is on the old line from Pontypool Road to Neath, part of which has been in use for freight at least until recently. Will the new traffic go by rail?

It is up the valley at the end of one of the lines from Neath & Brecon Junction. I think that the line has been out of use for quite a long time and might not all be there.

The mine is at the end of the truncated Vale of Neath line and the track is still there.

I have a feeling that it is the Neath & Brecon to Onllwyn, the other line from Neath & Brecon Junction, that will be, or will give access to, the test centre.

There’s two branches off N&B the left one (looking away from the SB) goes up to Onllwyn which still sees traffic, and will (maybe) become the test centre. The branch off the right which haven’t been used for some time I think is the one which this new site will feed - if rail is an option of course.

Looking at Google maps, there is some kind of coal site at Aberpergwm but the lien down to N&B is very very overgrown I’m wondering how much work will needed to get it up to standard.
