I'm currently in Aberdeen and going to travel back home to Glasgow in the afternoon. I'd checked the train times and was going to take the 1255 however unlike yesterday and Monday where it was a HST, it's a 170 today. I absolutely detest 170s for any sort of long journey, particularly when busy (which it likely will be - only 3 carriages & Easter Holiday travels).

Can I go via Edinburgh instead? I have a Glasgow-Aberdeen return which says 'Any permitted route'.

Yes, that's permitted - provided you travel to Edinburgh via Dundee and the Forth Bridge.

You can then travel onto Glasgow via any of the normal E-G routes.
